Performance and aftermarket headers are designed to let exhaust exit more easily. If air resistance or back-pressure makes it hard for exhaust to exit a cylinder, it robs the engine of power. If the exhaust manifold pipe is too small or the catalytic converter has a lot of air resistance then this can cause back-pressure. High-performance exhaust headers use smooth mandrel bends to ensure smooth exhaust flow. The addition of a performance catalytic converter or a Hi-Flow Catalytic converter can also help eliminate power robbing back-pressure.
